What is a commodore?

The Commodore is a brand of personal computers, first introduced in 1977 by Commodore International. The most famous Commodore computer is the Commodore 64, released in 1982, which was one of the most successful home computers of all time, selling more than 20 million units. Commodore computers were widely used in schools, homes, and businesses in the 1980s and early 1990s before they were overtaken by IBM-compatible PCs running Microsoft Windows. The company went bankrupt in 1994, and the Commodore brand has since been resurrected by different companies with a focus on retro gaming.
